Prom Dress Code

2025 Central High School Prom Dress Code

The prom, an important part of the Central High School experience, is a formal social event; therefore, everyone attending the prom is expected to dress and behave appropriately for a formal event.

Appropriate attire options:
*formal evening attire may include a tuxedo, suit with a tie, or sport coat with slacks and a tie. Jackets and vests may be removed, but shirts must remain on at all times.
*if wearing a dress or gown:
-the bottom must reach fingertip length when shoulders are relaxed.
-it cannot have a slit (front, back, or sides) higher than finger-tip length.
-the dress may not expose excessive cleavage or have a plunging neckline that is bare.
-it may not be excessively low cut in the back.
-the dress may not be extremely tight or form fitting.

*Attention:
If attire is questionable, students are encouraged to show their evening wear to Dr. Newman beforehand to determine if it is appropriate per the guidelines. All clothing must securely cover the chest area with solid fabric. The determination of the appropriateness of student dress shall rest with the prom sponsor or principal/assistant principals.

Students and their dates who are non-compliant with the dress code will not be admitted to the dance. No refunds will be given for dance dress code infractions in which students are asked to leave.

New Golf Coach

Christopher Rollings is married and is a proud parent of three children. Golf has been his lifelong passion, with 22 years of experience playing the game—from junior golf and competing at LEHS to continuing into adulthood.

In 2022 and 2023, Mr. Rollings served as an assistant with the golf team, bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience gained from learning under some of the best coaches in South Carolina. These mentors continue to be a source of guidance, both in the game of golf and in life.

Mr. Rollings is deeply committed to the game, the community, and especially this team. Believing in the groundwork and talent already present, he is focused on fostering teamwork and encouraging the daily pursuit of excellence.
With a passion for supporting the team and showcasing their strengths, Mr. Rollings proudly states, “I am excited to promote just how remarkable this group truly is. Go Eagles!”

New Cell Phone Policy for CCSD

As most of you know, the South Carolina Board of Education adopted a model policy prohibiting the use of personal electronic devices during the school day on September 3, 2024. This new policy will be effective January 1, 2025. This will be an adjustment for students, parents, and school staff. However, we believe it will significantly reduce distractions and enhance the learning environment for all.

State Requirement

Proviso 1.103 in the General Appropriations Bill, H.5100 of 2024, reads as follows:
To receive state funds allocated for State Aid to Classrooms, a school district shall implement a policy adopted by the State Board of Education that prohibits access to personal electronic communication devices by students during the school day. For purposes of this provision, a personal electronic communication device is considered to be a device not authorized for classroom use by a student, utilized to access the Internet, wi-fi, or cellular telephone signals.

New Policy Implementation

Starting in January, students will not be allowed to have cell phones powered on in the building during any part of the instructional day. This includes lunch time and class transitions. Cell phones must be powered off and placed in lockers, purses, backpacks, or other nonvisible secure locations. Additionally, headphones and earbuds are also prohibited unless specifically authorized for instructional purposes.

We are confident that implementing this policy will help:

Improve focus and engagement during lessons.
Reduce classroom distractions.
Foster stronger face-to-face interactions among students.
Enforcement

If a student is caught using a cell phone or other prohibited device during the day:

The device will be confiscated and held in the office, where it can be picked up at the end of the school day. Multiple offenses will result in disciplinary actions, including ISS and OSS.

Parent and Guardian Support

We are asking for your support with this policy. Please discuss these changes with your child to ensure a smooth transition. If you need to contact your student during the day, please call the school office, and we will relay your message.

Reminders for Parents and Students

Parents and Students:

To comply with CCS Policies, please remember the following:

Arrive on time in the morning; classes begin at 8:25. All students must arrive on time in order to proceed through the bag check.

If students do not enter the classroom by the second bell, they will be assigned to In School Detention (ISD) for that period. Students will be provided work for that period and will be dismissed from ISD in order to go to the next class.

Students are only allowed access to cell phones, smart watches, and earbuds/headphones before the 8:25 bell, during lunch in the Commons Area, and after the dismissal bell. No devices are permitted for use in the hallways and classrooms.
      -Offense One: Warning and Minor Infraction
      -Offense Two: Phone removed for the period and Minor Infraction
      -Offense Three: Phone to administration and Major Infraction

School issued IDs are required to be worn daily. Students who do not have an ID will receive a replacement for $5.00. Students who refuse to wear the ID properly will resort in disciplinary action.
